#4.
Final Project
Working
from
your own personal artistic interests, you
will be expected to create a significant digital artwork, or series
of works that are presented outside of the computer. The concept
of your work should inform the way it is presented. It could be printed
out using the ink-jet printers, printed by a company (such as Ezprints.com, Photographic
Creations or Kinkos), made into a book, made into slides
and projected, ironed onto fabric, incorporated into a web artwork,
a QuickTime movie, etc. You will need to turn in a written proposal
for this project. I will meet with each of you to help determine
a directed program of study and techniques necessary for you
to realize a significant work of digital art that you will be
proud to display in the end of the quarter show. Your
work must be shown in its completed form on the class critique
date. That includes finished framing.
This
final project will be submitted to the Art and Tech exhibition
jury on the last wednesday of classes,
(see schedule in Carmen). If selected, your
work will be displayed in the quarterly Art
and Technology exhibition which takes place
in the Art Gallery and the Soundstage in
Haskett Hall. Submitting your work to this
exhibition is a requirement of the course.
OPTION 1
Create a significant digital artwork, or series of works, that address
a concept of your choosing.
OPTION 2
"Seed"
“Seed” could signify fertility, a new
beginning, or perhaps a concern for the preservation, restoration,
or improvement of the natural environment. Using
digital tools we have covered this quarter, create an artwork
that investigates the concept of "Seed". The
finished product can take whatever form you deem appropriate. For
example, you could create an installation that interacts with or becomes
part of the environment, an experimental visual proposal that merges
art with scientific research - or science fiction - or a work
through which the public can participate and take an active role in
the realization of the concepts you choose to address.

• IMPORTANT
INFORMATION about turning in your final assignment in this
class •
Even for this last assignment, you must upload
your digital files to
the appropriate assignment dropbox folder in Carmen. We will critique the
actual, output work on our critique day, but I still want the
digital documents for my records.
If
you used any
source image files that are not your own, you must also upload
a text file that explains where each came from and includes
image permissions for images that are not explicitly copyright
free. This is to ensure that you are not violating copyright
law by misusing images that do not belong to you.
ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
CONCEPT - idea, intention and meaning.
Does the artwork clearly communicate something to other viewers? 25%
CREATIVITY - originality of thought and expression.
Does the artwork show innovation and uniqueness? Did the artist solve the given assignment problem in an expected or unexpected way? 25%
COMPOSITION - arrangement and organization of elements.Has the artist carefully considered elements such as balance, proportion, texture, color, shape, and positive/negative space? 25%
CRAFTSMANSHIP - attention to detail.
Does the artist skillfully manipulate the images? Are all details carefully finished and/or intentional-looking? 25%
